I'd love a review [with pics!] of the monitor once you get it. Even newegg has it listed for $15 more than pcandparts...

I intend on logging/capturing/reporting everything!
why would you develop and play video games on the same machine?
My personal opinion:
Development Machine:
Processor : i5 661
Motherboard : Intel DH55HC
Memory : 4-6GB DDR3
i5 661 has a built in GPU, not very fast for new games, but enough for dev. usage.
No need for graphics card, and you can spend the extra money on a nice SSD.
Budget for the above + PSU, Case, Screen, should not be more than 800$. (my current dev machine cost me 530$ and it is just 4GBDDR3).
Now spend the extra money on:
a PS3 @ 400$
an xbox 360 @ 350-400 max
a small laptop to browse the internet when you do not want to sit on a your new desktop.
all under 2.5k.

Well, apart from the fact that I already have the following: PS3, Xbox, Wii, iPad, HP DV8, LG X200. I'm lacking a powerful system that can handle insane graphics and perform just as well when it comes to virtualization and development.
well if you choose a beast desktop machine, you'll be stuck for a while with your heater err.. dv8 before you can get a macbook pro.. you can still change your mind..
but well if you have some time for gaming, go for the beast
Please bring your future system to our next meeting, I'd like to have a word with it.........

Anyone willing is more than welcome to help me install it when i get the parts.
We've got a problem :(
The memory kit is out of stock. What to get, what to get?

*want*
Great, MegaCool gave his thumbs up as well.
Guys, I'm left with the following options.
1- kingston ddr3
2- Patriot Triple Channel
Need feedback!
I'm not really a memory expert, but I can assure you my Kingston DDR3 rams are doing just great in my case, even when overclocked - nothing but optimal performance so far. I'm not sure about Patriot Triple Channel, so I'm not gonna blabber about it being crap or superior - maybe someone is using them can give his feedback. Good luck xterm - sweet rig indeed

PS3 + Widescreen TV + Beer Fridge ≈ $2500
PS3 + Widescreen TV + Beer Fridge ≈ $2500
You will start the PC vs PS3 war :)
To War!
PS3 + Widescreen TV + Beer Fridge ≈ $2500
Get a 6 pack, get in your car, drive to my place and you get the above.
This monster lives in our house too:
Sexiest case I've ever seen (it's a true beast), and I'm very fond of the 32'' fans:
Nice rig xterm, enjoy :)
Guys, unless someone says otherwise soon, I'll be going with Kingston ddr3
xterm tell me when you get the system i should pay you a visit and we ll stress test it (m :Dmm we can also test the ps3 and xbox too

Here is a little fantasy of mine... buy two SSD drives (fastest I can get) and set them up as RAID0 :-) I don't know if the bus can handle such speeds, though. If not that'd probably be a waste.
But since SSD seem to be so expensive, maybe this money is better spent on a bigger LCD (23" is not that big, really) for example. Or a sound system to go with it, or just spare it for any future technology that will be worth buying (like kinect, 3D headset, or something...).
Your graphic card also seems to be quite expensive. Maybe a couple of cheaper models set up in parallel would be better? It depends how much of a gamer you are in the end. Also make sure the cooling on that thing is not too noisy Another concern would be getting the most up-to-date board you can get so that you can do upgrades in the future. Kudos for getting a good case, I hope it's worth the money (it is a bit expensive for a case, but worth it if it's really well built and designed).
BTW I have a friend who specializes in getting and assembling high-end hardware. Also kind of off topic, but you can get the macbook air for maybe around $1800. It's very light. It's not very powerful but the SSD drive means apps launch real fast. Sorry for being off topic it's just one of these things I'd consider buying if I had money to invest on computers.
And the beer offer sounds tempting BTW :)
Don't get me wrong SSD is real good but in this setup it's expensive, I don't know why, I expected it to cost less.
