Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

Is there a reason why only ali went for the 2600K i7 ?

Another question, do those graphic cards you mentioned have HDMI out? are we assuming that the connectivity is through HDMI ?

I'm just going to up the ones that are listed as more performant and more expensive and we can start reducing from there on.

Graphics card: Inno3d GTX580

Don't go with ATI because of driver instability

A single GTX560i is not enough, running 2 in SLI is expensive and over the budget

A single GTX580 can handle recent games perfectly, SLIing GTX580 is too expensive and useless, unless you will buy 3 HD screens and game on that

Ok got it.

All of you chose quite different motherboards. I can't decide on any ><

Alright guys. I brought everything up in the main post. Still within the range of 2500$, we can swap a bit around.

Tell me what you think.

Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

If you go with the Intel board, your overclock will be limited to Intel's Step Speed. Also the UPS is not enough. 1000VA = 660watts

You need 1250VA to cover the whole 800 watts

Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

xterm, there something fundamentally wrong  and something that I personally consider wrong !

The more pressing issue: Corei7-2600k is dual channel and not triple channel and in order to take advantage you need a memory kit with x2 multiplayer (2 dimms, 4 dimms). Even though what you chose will work perfectly fine, you'll have 2 dimms working in dual mode, and 1 dimm working in single mode. I advise you to choose an 8GB configuration (2 x 4GB).

The meh issue: The graphics card that you chose is 100$ more expensive then this: Asus ENGTX580/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB DDR5 Dual. Exact same model, exact same everything and I would personally go the Asus way. but that's just me ...

Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

Ok it seems like there quite a few issues here:

1- 2600k is dual channel, memory is triple channel. If i revert from 12GB Triple to 8GB Dual, do i gain or lose performance?
2- The CPU cooler i chose is incompatible with 2600K, any alternative?
3- Should i just drop the 2600K and go for another processor?

Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

8GB dual = all of  your dimms working together hand in hand. You will actually gain performance as both of your dimms are in dual mode.

What made you think that Coolermaster V8 is not compatible? It does support 1155 socket. From the website:

CPU Socket    Intel Socket:
LGA 1366 / 1156 / 1155 / 775 *

AMD Socket:
AM3 / AM2+ / AM2

For some reason they are set on the fact that the cooler does not support LGA1155.

How about this? http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.a … 17&ID=1988

Re: YABANPT - yet another build a new PC topic.

Updated memory and cooling.

We still have 200$ to allocate. Perhaps add another patriot dual channel kit?

P.S.: This is an all purpose machine. Gaming, Development, Virtualization...
