Firefox Add-ons

Hello everyone,

I though of starting a new thread where each Firefox user posts his add-ons with a small description. That way we can benefit from each other by enchancing our browsing experience.

Adblock Plus: Blocks ads. Simplifies the look of ads-bloated website and also reduces bandwidth usage.
Cooliris: Panomaric view of pictures. Works on a lot of websites such as Google Images, Facebook, etc...
DownloadHelper: I use it to download Youtube videos.
Dragdropupload: Instead of browsing to attach or upload a file, you can simply drag the file from its folder to the upload context.
Fetch Text URL: Enables right click options to open selected text in new tab or window.
FoxClocks: Small icon in the status bar for multiple time zones.
Paste and Go 3: Enable right click option allowing you to paste and go in the address bar.
Quick Restart: Restart button for Firefox
Tab Mix Plus: Tabs organization
Xmarks: Bookmarks syncing.

Re: Firefox Add-ons

Thanks Xsever you got some interesting addons.. Im more of a minimalistic guy...

Here are the ones I install all the time...
- Tabs Open Relative - Opens new tab next to current one, Chrome style
- Compact menu 2 - Compacts all menus (files, edit, etc...) into one button that you can put on the toolbar. Saves vertical space.
- Stop-or-reload button - Combines stop and reload into one button
- CacheViewer - Allows you to browse the browser cache and save items as wished, I use it to save flash videos that I just watched. But you must make sure the maximum cache size of your browser (in Firefox Options) is set to a high enough value. If the video is bigger then the maximum cache size, then you will not be able to save it using this method.
- rein theme - I think it looks kind of classy, and does not try to imitate any other browser. plus it contains a  button designed for the Compact Menu.

----
Some other extensions I am not using anymore
- Stylish - Allows you to apply custom CSS styles to the page you visit, and also to browser chrome. custom styles are available for download too.
- Chrome viewer - Explores browser chrome tree. Good for Firefox programmers.

Re: Firefox Add-ons

Hey rolf,

Thanks for sharing your add-ons. I benefited from Tabs Open Relatvice since Firefox 3.5 open new tabs at the end.

I also found a new tweak for Firefox that will increase performance. It defrags your database.

* Open the Error Console: Tools menu/Error Console
* In the Code text box paste this (it's a single line):

          Components.classes["@mozilla.org/browser/nav-history-service;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsPIPlacesDatabase).DBConnection.executeSimpleSQL("VACUUM");

* Press Evaluate. All the UI will freeze for a few seconds while databases are VACUUMed

Enjoy it,

I used to use Tuneup Utilities, but just for registry cleaning. A lot of their features are just for looks. Nothing big.

Anything specific you can recommend?

Hey everyone, this thread is a little old but I think it is worth reviving here is a new good FF extension that I have stumbled upon and it is awesome IMO.

CryptoFox is an encryption/decryption tool for Mozilla Firefox, with dictionary attack support for cracking MD5 passwords! It gives you encryption/decryption and hashing functionalities right from your Firefox browser, mostly useful for programmers, web developers, security auditors or for educational purposes and fun.
No more waste of time downloading some cryptographic tools and visiting online encryption/decryption/hashing websites. CryptoFox is an original Firefox extension, designed to be unique and simple to use.
