@rahmu, every once in a while i have to tackle it but in the coming months i will be tacking more with sed/awk. the problem is that i always forget what i learned :P so i have to learn it again every 6months or so :P argh.
I experience the same thing. That's why I don't try to learn everything anymore. I even have a name for the phenomenon, the round ribbon effect. You start at one place, as you continue learning, you can't refresh other parts of your memory and they eventually become in a stagnant state that needs the refresh. It really holds back the maximum efficiency a person can have. I think programmers are the most people who have hands on experience with this effect.
