Hi guys
I'm pretty much new to DSL, i got it a couple of weeks ago.
I'm subscribed to the 128 plan.
I have a couple of questions.. I have my main phone line connected to a splitter off which a 'phone' cable is connected to the DSL modem/router is it the right setup?
Ogero provided a very shi*y router, a 'Thomson TG585', it signal only reaches a couple of rooms.. Is there any way i can get them to change my router?? :S
Finally.. im getting a latency around 700ms, but often lower on my wired PC (Around 400ms) is that normal?? my speed is around 80-100kbps
I just got this result on my wired PC
The result on my iPod was: ping: 615 D: 97
Thanks :)

first of all welcome to the forum, and i hope you enjoy your stay.
I think that the setup you have is correct as its the one i have and havent had problems ever since.
the high ping while using wireless is normal if like you said its a shitty router, I could give you an example of the wifi router im using, the e1000 which doesnt noticeably increase latency.
So everything you wrote on your first post seems normal except the high ping while using wired connection as i have read Ogero gives the lowest latency, now i dont really understand your second post nor what to do, but while using your phone line can hear any noises? thats what could be shittying your connection.

your line attenuation is really high, is there any reason for that? maybe you can check the filters.

Thanks guys for the reply...
Could it be because the main phone line (the copper one) is connected to a normal phone cable by hand? how is it suppose to be connected?
Offline
what do you mean by hand connected?
let me see if i got this straight, you have your phone line coming from outside connected to a splitter that divides it into modem cable and phone cable right? im not really understanding what you mean with your post but i will do my best, try replacing the splitter which could be causing problems,
try checking your connection without the splitter nor the phone, just your pc connected directly into your modem to see if the problem is actually coming from outside.

I tried connecting the phone line Directly to the modem, these are the results:

Check your main line that come from the road.
How much distance between You and the Tel. Exchange ??

yes the problem is definetely on the line that goes from your modem to the street or it could be the modem.
